Clarification
[edit]The term "outsource" is often confused with "offshore." Often the 2 occur together, but they are sometimes done separately. Did Mr. Baker outsource IT (have IT done by another company), offshore IT (have IT done outside the US), or both (have IT done outside the US by another foreign or domestic company)? Where does he stand on the issues?
[edit]Seeing as he is running for a high profile elected position, there should be a section stately briefly where he stands on political issues, just like there is on Deval's wikipedia page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.63.129.170 (talk) 17:45, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
Articles sources are very difficult to verify, please link to the online version even if behind the paywall
[edit]I noticed this article has numerous sources that are all reliable and all. the problem is the way they are written. They list the date and page of the the article. Thats all fine and dandy if you would like to book a flight to boston and work your way through the boston globe reading room. I understand that most globe articles are behind a paywall but the fact is that is the easiest way for people to verify the authenticity of what portions of the article they are being used to back up. I would recommed that we list both. list the articles page and date as in the ref title as well as a link to the globe article online. As the man is running for governor of Mass I would assume a good portion of this wiki's readers have online access to the globe archives with thier delivery subscription. Most people are not going to copy the wikipedia article and walk down to archives to verify things. we should make it easier. heck, a weeks subscription to get the access would cost less then the train fare. anyone want to take a stab at this? I could just make anything up about the guy and say "Boston Globe August 21st, 1992 p26" as it stands. -Tracer9999 (talk) 03:52, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Good points, but citing newspaper articles in this way is ultimately perfectly fine. After all, books, all the way from the "journalistic" kinds to the most scholarly, cite newspaper articles (and journal articles, which are always behind paywalls) in this way. As nice as it would be to verify all of these articles (and as much as I want to), the newspaper citations might have to remain as they are, which, since Baker is a current political candidate, significantly reduces the credibility of the article. Sigh. Scrawlspacer (talk) 08:21, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
State government career
[edit]I tried to make this section sound more NPOV, and in doing so discovered that the section really isn't that clear. The entire chronology is hard to decipher (for instance, was Weld still governor when Baker submitted the plan in 1997 or had he already resigned by then?), but the last paragraph's is particularly confusing. I took a guess at whether "financing method" and "Baker's plan" were the same or different. The fact that the paragraph starts with a one-sentence description of the 2007 findings but then immediately goes to refutations—Baker's possibly from when he first put the plan in place, but Kerasiotes's apparently from 2007—does not speak well for the article's NPOV. Maybe the report has other information that would not necessarily cast the candidate in a good light.
That being said, I hope someone with knowledge (especially the chronology) will tackle this section and make sure the facts are accurate.
Many thanks! Scrawlspacer (talk) 08:56, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
Requested move 16 February 2015
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved. Clearly the primary topic. Number 57 12:47, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
Charlie Baker (politician) → Charlie Baker – As governor of a state with 6.7 million residents, he is easily the primary topic for the name "Charlie Baker" considering the others we have articles on are an obscure racecar driver, an long dead Aussie rules football player, and an obscure, long dead baseball player. A hatnote is sufficient to point readers to the disambiguation page with their names on it. -- Calidum 05:07, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
- Support - Over the past 90 days, this article has received 57,627 page views compared to 429 for the race car driver, 305 for the Australian rules football player, and 237 for the baseball player. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 05:38, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
- Comment, I am not sure of the extent that Charlie Baker sufficiently disambiguates from Charles Baker (the current destination for the redirect. I am inclined to oppose. GregKaye 08:52, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
- Comment per Greg Kaye, the current disambiguation is bad, so if this isn't the primary topic, then it should be moved to Charlie Baker (governor) and the current title should redirect to the disambiguation page, as there are many politicians. -- 70.51.200.101 (talk) 06:10, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- Since none of the other politicians seem to have been known as Charlie Baker, there's no need for this. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:51, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose per all 3 above, cf Charles Baker (politician). In ictu oculi (talk) 11:48, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- Charlie Baker (politician) 90 day pageviews-57502
- Charlie Baker (baseball) 90 day pageviews-253
- Charlie Baker (footballer) 90 day pageviews-313
- Charlie Baker (racing driver) 90 day pageviews-427
- Based on the above, I Support the move since over 98% of the readers are looking for him.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 02:30, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
- Support - this is really a no brainer. The three other Charlies are all obscure in page view and notability, and there's no evidence that any of the other Charles Bakers are ever referred to as Charlie. A hatnote can take users back to the disambig page anyway. — Amakuru (talk) 13:14, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Name Vandalism
[edit]Since this article began people have made a habit of changing his name to end in "IV" instead of "Jr." His legal name ends in "Jr."
No, it doesn't make sense, as his grandfather had the same name that also ended in "Jr.", so he's the fourth. Doesn't matter. His name ends in "Jr.", too. Look at the sources. It doesn't have to make sense. Changing someone's name because you don't agree with it is vandalism and will be reverted immediately. —Designate (talk) 13:02, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
- There are multiple official state of Massachusetts sources that use the IV suffix, for instance:
- The Charles D. Baker II Scholarship application referring to granddson CHarles D. Baker IV.
- A 2015 Commonwealth Magazine story.
- A 2016 Town of Carlisle annual report
- Arbor to SJ (talk) 20:03, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- Form CPF-101: Statement of Organization Candidate Committee, which was signed by Charles D. Baker on July 29, 2009, very clearly states that his name is Charles D. Baker Jr.
- A PDF copy of the statement can be found on this link, https://ocpf2.blob.core.windows.net/pdf/filers/14955/14955-cpf101-1-072909.pdf
- In my view a statement signed by the subject, under penalties of perjury, takes precedent over any other source that has been presented. FFM784 (talk) 22:15, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
Face masks
[edit]I would like to know where I can get a mask. I can’t buy one and I can’t sew so that isn’t helping. Here in Taunton where I live I can’t even get my hands on a roll of toilet paper never mind a mask. I have cancer, copd, emphysema. An aortic aneurism and most likely cancer so I can’t leave my house comfortably but I do because I have to make frequent trips to my drug store I would like some information as to what I am supposed to do I live alone with no family even to call on for help — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:196:8700:21E0:BD81:B4F4:824A:A4D3 (talk) 22:08, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
This isn't necessarily the place for this, as Wikipedia is not a forum, but there's a GQ article called "Where to Buy Face Masks" that covered this pretty well. I would also suggest that you get someone who is not as vulnerable as you to pick up your drugs for you, maybe a friend if you truly can't get family members to do this. Stay safe!
